Japan Consumer Sentiment Weakens In September
Confidence among Japanese households deteriorated slightly in September, after improving in the previous month, data released by the Cabinet Office showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index, excluding one-person households, decreased to 40.1 in September from 40.5 in August, which was higher than July's reading of 39.7.
Households' perception of their overall livelihood turned less upbeat in September, with the relevant indicator falling to 40.6 from August's 40.7. Their views of the employment conditions in the country became more downbeat. The relevant sub-index fell to 37.7 from 38.7. The measure of willingness to make new purchases decreased to 42.2 in September from 42.8 in August.
Meanwhile, consumers were slightly more upbeat about their income growth, with the corresponding indicator rising to 39.7 from 39.6 in August
