Greek Inflation Drops Further In June
Greece's consumer price inflation weakened to the lowest level in thirty-two months in June, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Monday.
Annual inflation slowed to 1.3 percent in June from 1.4 percent in May. The latest figure was the lowest since October 2009, when consumer prices rose 1.2 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 2 percent annually, and clothing and footwear prices advanced 1.4 percent. Housing costs were higher by 5.7 percent compared to last year, while transportation costs increased 1.3 percent, data showed.
Month-on-month, consumer prices edged down 0.3 percent in June, in line with the decrease recorded in the previous month.
At the same time, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), measured under the EU methodology, increased at a slightly faster rate of 1 percent in June than 0.9 percent in May. Month-on-month, the HICP dropped 0.2 percent, after falling 0.3 percent in the previous month, the agency said.
