German Unemployment Rate Unchanged In August
Unemployment rate in Germany remained unchanged at 5.5 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in August, data released by the Federal Statistical Office showed Thursday.
This was lower than a jobless rate of 5.8 percent recorded in the same month last year. On an unadjusted basis, the rate fell to 5.4 percent from 5.8 percent in July.
According to adjusted data, unemployment fell 6.1 percent year-on-year to 2.31 million. This was 0.4 percent less than in July.
The number of unemployed was down 8.3 percent year-on-year, in real terms. Compared with July, there was a 5.7 percent fall in the number of unemployed. Meanwhile, employment rose 1 percent annually to 40.09 million.
This represented a 0.1 percent increase compared to July. The employment rate was at 63.7 percent in August, up slightly from 63.5 percent a month earlier.
