| Usd Could Recover from Recent Weakness if fED Disappoints Quotes from Standard Chartered: -We expect this week's FOMC to disappoint those looking for aggressive policy easing, and risky asset gains will reverse, while the US dollar (USD) could similarly recover from recent weakness. Even if the Fed expands its balance sheet, we would not expect this to automatically weaken the USD. -After the first round of QE in March 2009, the USD weakened abruptly, with the DXY index falling nearly 15% in the next eight months. In contrast, the DXY's drop came after Bernanke's Jackson Hole speech in August 2010, but ahead of the November 2010 FOMC, with the DXY falling 8.5%.   | |
