US Durable Goods Orders Likely to Bounce Back

-We expect US headline durable goods orders in July to have risen 3.5% m/m, after a firm 1.6% increase in June. This would still leave the headline series 0.8% lower than the December 2011 release.
-In July Boeing reported an increase in aircraft orders of 260 units, up from 24 in June and 8 in May. This was the strongest month for aircraft orders so far in 2012. This hearty increase will likely push the headline number up faster than the ex-transportation component.
-Durable goods orders ex-transportation, a far less volatile series, likely rose only 1.0% m/m, not quite recovering the 1.1% drop in June. We expect a modest pickup in core durable goods orders, with the firm pick-up in industrial production offset by weakness in the ISM manufacturing new orders series.
