U.K. Jobless Claims Fall Sharply In August
Change the headline to reflect decline in jobless claims
The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance fell by 15,000 in August from the prior month to 1.57 million, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday.
Economists had forecast the number to remain flat in August after falling 13,600 in July.
The unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in the three months to July, down 0.1 percentage point from the three months to April but up 0.1 from a year earlier. The rate was seen at 8 percent.
Average earnings growth rate for total pay was 1.5 percent in the three months to July, down from 1.8 per cent in the three months to June.
